Update
KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Council Speaker Mncedisi Skosana has been removed as a councillor by Western Cape Local Government minister Anton Bredell, with immediate effect.
Bredell’s ruling was made in a letter on Friday 23 May to Skosana highlighting the “seriousness” of the infringement.
Skosana has also been ordered to repay 20% of all allowances he received as a councillor and Speaker.
Bredell’s action follows recommendations contained in a Committee Investigation into the Conduct of Councillors concluded in September last year, following a Western Cape High Court decision that found political appointments in Knysna to be illegal.
The investigation recommended that Skosana, former mayor Aubrey Tsengwa, both ANC, and deputy mayor Alberto Marbi, of the PBI, all members of the ruling coalition, be removed from office.
Bredell first requested the three to make representations to him on the recommendations, before taking action.
Tsengwa and Marbi both resigned as councillors to avoid Bredell’s sanctions.
