KNYSNA NEWS - Following his election as first citizen on Monday 22 November, newly elected Knysna Mayor Levael Davis announced his mayoral committee (mayco) on Wednesday 24 November.

The role of the mayoral committee is to assist and advise the executive mayor. The mayor together with the mayco performs those powers and functions that have been designated to the mayor by the municipal council. 

In Knysna Municipality the mayco is made up of five portfolios - Integrated Human Settlements and Planning; Infrastructure Services; Corporate Services; Community Services; and Finance and Economy.

This means that the committee is made up of five members of council with the addition of the mayor. Former mayor of Knysna and current deputy mayor Mark Willemse will take up the portfolio of Integrated Human Settlements and Planning.

Ward 10 councillor Peter Bester will head Infrastructure Services while KIM PR Councillor Susan Campbell will be responsible for Corporate Services. DA PR Councillor Elmarie Maxim will be in charge of Community Services with Ward 9 Councillor Sharon Sabbagh all set to oversee the Finance and Economy portfolio.

"With a balance of experience and knowledge, this mayoral committee will ensure that this local government is well-run and committed to delivering on the voters' mandate," said municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt.
