SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Three weeks after the Local Government Election on 3 August the seven municipalities in the Eden district have all inaugurated their new mayors, deputy mayors and speakers.
The top posts in each council in our region are filled as follows:
Outright DA majority with over 55% of the votes. A total of 29 seats go to the DA, 16 to the ANC, two to the PBI and one seat each for the EEF, FF Plus, AIC, ACDP, SA Civics and Icosa.
Deputy – Gerrit Pretorius
Speaker – Iona Kritzinger
Chief Whip – Mxolisi Nyakati
Outright DA majority. For the first time since 1994 a single political party has an outright majority.
The DA is firmly in control with 14 seats, while the combined opposition could only muster 11 seats (ANC 7, Icosa 2, EFF 1 and Sarco 1).
Deputy – Noluthando Mwati
Speaker – Julia le Roux-Krowitz
No formal coalition agreement between the DA and ANC, but cooperating to keep Icosa out. Local councillors objected to the fact that Icosa President Jeffrey Donson is a convicted criminal. Icosa won three seats, with two each for the DA and ANC.
Deputy – Philip Goliath (ANC)
Speaker – Aletta Theron (DA)
Outright DA majority. With 17 seats the DA will govern. The ANC has seven with one each for Icosa, FF Plus and the ACDP.
Deputy – Dirk Kotzé
Speaker – Petru Terblanche
DA and FF Plus coalition. The DA and ANC hold eight seats each in council, and the FF Plus one.
Deputy – Adwin Saayman (FF Plus)
Speaker – Andrew Stroebel (DA)
DA governs in coalition with the Knysna Unity Congress (KUC) and independent councillor Velile Waxa.
The DA holds 10 seats in council, the ANC holds seven seats, with one seat each for the ACDP, Cope, KUC and Waxa.

Speaker – Georlene Wolmarans
ANC and AUF coalition. Despite the fact that the DA received 48,58% of the votes, which gives the party six seats, it did not secure an outright majority.
The ANC received 40,99% of the support, also giving it six seats, while the Active United Front (AUF) managed 5,36% of the votes for the final seat.
