The service is on a re-enlistment drive after last year's process saw 529 former officers being appointed to positions.
National Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says, “180 of the applicants were deployed in the detective service, 297 in the visible policing environment and 52 in the support environment with ranks ranging from the rank of constable to colonel."
He adds, "When we embarked on this re-enlistment programme we wanted to see how many of them wanted to come back because not only did they acquire training skills from Saps, but when they left the organisation, they also acquired training and skills outside of Saps that we feel can be better utilised."
