Elderly man killed in Sophiatown robbery

NATIONAL NEWS - With the latest crime statistics showing an increase in contact crimes including murder and armed robbery, police are searching for two suspects who attacked an elderly couple in their Sophiatown home killing the man in and leaving his wife with serious injuries.

The man who was in his 70s was declared dead on the scene this morning after last night’s armed robbery while his wife remains in critical condition in hospital.

The suspects made off with jewellery and household goods.

The police's Lungelo Dlamini said, “It happened during the early hours of this morning at about 3am when a couple were attacked in their cottage. The 71-year-old man was stabbed to death and his wife was strangled during the house robbery.”
