Mr Ian and Ms Carol Mattheus were enjoying the sunset in the coolness of the water, when Carol saw movement behind one of the trees close to the pool and house. Although her husband told her she was just imagining things, she thought it safer to go fetch the panic button.
She had just returned to the pool, when a man dressed in a black T-shirt appeared next to her and pointed a gun at her. He told her not to push the panic button or he would “blow her brains out”, and then demanded that the two get out of the pool and into the house. Carol, however, managed to press the button, which made the robber furious.
Upon getting out of the water, an altercation between her and the man ensued when she wanted to get a towel.
