GEORGE NEWS - Police management in the Western Cape has launched an investigation following the circulation of a horrific WhatsApp video taken at the scene of the accident where a motorcyclist (41) from George lost his life in the Outeniqua Pass on Friday 19 April.
In the meantime a friend of the deceased's family contacted George Herald also pleading with the paper to ask readers to stop sharing the horrible video.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, the internal investigation aims to determine whether the video was taken by police officers who responded to the scene.
A senior officer attached to the Garden Route District was assigned to the matter.
Upon conclusion of the investigation if any police members are implicated consequence management will follow.
Whilst the investigation is underway, the police want to appeal to the public to refrain from circulating this video on social media platforms due to the sensitive nature of its content and also out of respect for the bereaved family.
Western Cape police management consider this matter as serious and condemns the circulation of the video. The necessary steps will be taken if found that police officials are involved.
