NATIONAL NEWS - The Solidarity Helping Hand and organisers of AiG (Afrikaans is groot) concert respond to reports of a possible cancellation of AIG and the request to remove Steve Hofmeyr from its lineup.
Deputy managing director for Helping Hand Ernst Vorster confirmed that AiG has never been or will not be a platform for political agendas.
According to a press release by concert host Sun International, it asked the organizers of AiG to give Steve Hofmeyr the boot.
This follows the withdrawal of major sponsors earlier this year due to Hofmeyr’s participation in the show.
Sun International’s media statement does however, point to potential implications for the future of the shows.
Brendon Hargrove, executive producer of the AiG shows, confirmed that the talks took place between the organizers of AiG and Sun International and said the discussions resulted in positive solutions.
Hargrove confirmed that the organisers and Sun International put the ticket buyers’ interests first.
