KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Council has appointed its acting director of community services, Xola Frans, to act in the same position for a further three months.
Frans was unanimously reappointed in the position during a virtual special council meeting on Thursday 28 January.
On 13 October 2020, the Knysna Council appointed Frans as the Acting Director Community Services for a period of three months expiring on 30 January 2021.
In a report to Council on Thursday, Acting Municipal Manager Dawie Adonis said in order to ensure continued operational effectiveness and efficiency, it is necessary to appoint Frans for a further three months.
"The office of the Acting Municipal Manager is satisfied that the municipality has sufficient internal capacity to ensure continued smooth, effective and efficient operations within the libraries section during the period in which Frans is acting as director," he said.
Adonis said the position of Director Community Services has been vacant since the resignation of Eben Phillips in October 2020 and a process is facilitated from the office of the municipal manager to advertise the position.
During the council meeting, Knysna Mayor Elrick van Aswegen said Frans is a good candidate to take over the position.
"Since his appointment as the acting director in October, he has done a sterling job. This directorate deals with the community directly and Frans is a community person," he said.
DA Councillor Michelle Wasserman said the DA is happy to have Frans appointed as the acting director for a further three months as he has done an excellent job.
