KNYSNA NEWS - "One of the interesting exhibitors at this year's Knysna Antique and Classic Boat Show next month will be the WaWa Wooden Surfboard company from Muizenberg.
The company's lead board shaper Cobus Joubert says he is inspired by the hydrodynamic genius of the ancient Hawaiian board builders, and that all their boards are handcrafted and allow for a surfing experience "of profound purity".
Joubert will be demonstrating his techniques live on the Turbine Hotel lawn during the event, using mostly locally harvested wood, beeswax, natural oils and bio resins, and three boards will go to lucky winners on the day.
Also on offer during the boat show will be rides in the classic boat Sophia out of Thesen Harbour Town.
In full boats only, accommodating five people at a time, for a fee, you will be able to enjoy the feeling of a classic boat ride to the deep roar of the V6, water-cooled engine with Magic Lagoon Charter company.
Sophia will be one of the classic boats taking to the water during the boat show.
Another exhibitor is a relatively new local company called Shelter Marine who is launching their boat, a spin on the classic lifeboat. It is as comfortable and luxurious as a pontoon boat without the metal pontoons to spoil it.
Merchandise this year includes the ubiquitous boat show cap as well as a choice of boat cushion in printed fabric featuring previous popular designs and this year's theme, for as little as R50.
So do come down to Thesen Harbour Town on Saturday 5 October from 10:00 and support this show and the exhibitors who put such an effort into presenting their boats for public scrutiny. Entrance is free and all are welcome."
