KNYSNA NEWS - For the first time in the 109-year history of the club, a woman performed the traditional salute at the Knysna Yacht Club's Opening Cruise that was held on Saturday 7 September.
The inshore secretary, Gayle Newby, stood in for the commodore, and saluted the many watercraft to acknowledge their participation in the sail past.
It was a super fun day to celebrate the start of the sailing season, surrounded by sparkling blue water, clear skies and light winds.

The clubhouse decks were overflowing with spectators eager to see the parade of brightly decorated boats floating by. Many guests took part in the celebrations aboard two luxury yachts and the amazing Seahorse swimmers also bravely swam, treading water to take the salute. It was truly a most enjoyable day.
