KNYSNA NEWS - A White Location man was murdered over the weekend after intervening in a lovers' quarrel, according to reports.
A 57-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested for the murder.
It is alleged the suspect and his unnamed girlfriend got into an argument on Saturday evening 7 March, and that the deceased had made attempts to intervene and break off the argument. On Sunday afternoon, the deceased allegedly got caught up in an altercation with the suspect near Tshakies Tavern in White Location, resulting in the suspect allegedly stabbing the deceased.
According to Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, an autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted later this week.
Spies said, "Circumstances surrounding the death of a 30-year-old man at Concordia Road, Knysna on Sunday 8 March 2020 at about 15:00 are under investigation."
He confirmed that available information reveals the victim sustained a stab wound to the chest. "He was later transported to hospital with a private vehicle, but paramedics that were responding to the initial incident declared the victim dead at Concordia Road."
The suspect appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 10 March, when the matter was postponed to 13 March for a formal bail application. "The suspect was remanded in custody and investigation continues," concluded Spies.
