KNYSNA NEWS - A new volunteer fire fighting initiative is calling on all residents of Knysna who would like to play a more involved part in protecting their town from future veld and forest fires.
This weekend, during the Knysna Timber Festival (5 to 7 October) at Timber Village, the Knysna Volunteer Fire Rangers (KVFR) will be manning a stall to recruit members of the community, supported by the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (SCFPA).
SCFPA Eastern Region manager Dirk Smit said the stall will serve as an information station where those interested in joining the cause can find out more about the initiative and what exactly the KVFR wants to achieve.
Residents who volunteer and who will subsequently become part of the KVFR, said Smit, will be trained and equipped with the proper knowledge and tools to assist the local fire department and the greater community. “They will also be trained to be of assistance during any other disaster or incident that may occur in the area,” he added.
For more information contact Smit at 044 302 6900 or 072 785 2742.
