KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Secondary School in Hornlee, Knysna is celebrating the remarkable achievement of two of the school's life orientation teachers, Priscilla Bastian and Veronica Rhode, each receiving the prestigious Excellence in Life Orientation Teaching award from the Western Cape education department.
Bastian and Rhode, who teach life orientation in grades 10-12, were two of only six high school teachers from the Eden and Central Karoo education district to receive the award at a Life Orientation gala event in Cape Town on October 4.
Unwavering dedication
Their innovative approaches and unwavering dedication to teaching were highlighted during the event.
The two Knysna teachers were also recognised for their "extremely good commitment, hardworking qualities, (and for being) passionate and phenomenal educators in life orientation in grade 12".
For Bastian, the award is an important milestone in her illustrious four-decade teaching career. "It is an honour and absolute privilege to have my career end on this note," she said.
Rhode said her receiving the award again demonstrated that "hard work pays off".
Future generations
Heinrich Filander, head of the Life Orientation Department at Knysna Secondary School, expressed his pride at being part of such a phenomenal team. "It's amazing to work alongside talented educators like Mrs Bastian and Mrs Rhode," he said.
The teachers' achievement underscores Knysna Secondary School's commitment to excellence in education and its teachers' passion for inspiring future generations.
