KNYSNA NEWS - Just as Tinkerland preschool started seeing the end of the tunnel in terms of its renovations, it has been forced to find funds for added security renovations after a series of burglaries.
According to Tinkerland's principal Elmarie Maxim, they were busy getting the school ready for registration adding two more toilets, a storeroom and stabilising the floor when the burglaries occurred.
As the school cannot afford a security guard, it had to hold a fundraiser for burglar bars and/or alarm system which still fell well short of the intended mark.
During the last of four burglaries since the beginning of last month, all the food to feed 83 children for a month was stolen as well as money, a computer hard drive, a kettle, DVD player, building material, food, hand sanitisers and toilet paper. Renovations have now also been placed on hold because they cannot afford the labour. The building also still needs constant maintenance, and the school needs educational material and toys on an ongoing basis.
Now in its fourth year, Tinkerland has created employment oppor-tunities in Concordia and assisted in the development of many preschool children. Anyone wishing to help can contact Elmarie Maxim on 071 012 8094 or email her on elmarie.maxim@gmail.com.
