visitors could enjoy good company with a delicious slice of cake and a cup of tea or coffee for a mere R20. The support for TLC's Help Us To Help Others Tea Garden fundraiser was overwhelming. Several volunteers ensured that the cake table literally groaned under the weight of the variety of donated cakes.
The collection of cakes, from milk tarts to rich chocolate cakes, ensured that nobody left without having enjoyed at least one slice of cake.
Currently, TLC houses 17 patients in three houses in Sedgefield. "We have a long waiting list and are currently looking for a fourth house to accommodate the growing need for Alzheimer's care for the people who can't afford private care," said founder and chairperson, Gilda Scammel. She shared heart-rendering stories of Alzheimer sufferers who had been found wandering around lost, or confined to locked rooms and houses. "Some even showed signs of sexual abuse. We have come across so many sad cases in our little village alone.
Besides a fourth house, TLC is desperately looking and praying for a reliable vehicle to transport the patients. The committee urged members of the public to consider donations to help TLC with their needs. "Donations may be paid into our bank account: The Living Cornerstone, FNB Sedgefield, business account, number 624 1349 4890, branch code 210 229."
