PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Although services have resumed at the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court, following its temporary closure after the severe weather in May damaged its roof, the nearby Central Library in New Horizon remains closed.

The library is currently a construction site, with contractors carrying out extensive internal and external maintenance, including painting and repairs to water-damaged electrical infrastructure and equipment. 

According to the municipality's communications manager, Andile Namntu, electricians are on site attending to the damaged electrical infrastructure, and a detailed assessment and progress update are expected later this week.

No confirmed reopening date has yet been established, but the municipality is working towards opening the library by the end of September, subject to weather conditions and the completion of the outstanding repairs. 

Namntu said the municipality was consolidating information from the relevant departments on the repair work and reopening plans, adding that the work was being undertaken by a service provider, and some technical information was therefore not immediately available.

The prolonged closure has disrupted access to library services for residents, who now await further updates on when the facility will reopen. 

The end-of-September target remains dependent on the completion of the necessary repairs and any further weather-related delays.
