PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay will this year for the first time play host to the Knysna & Garden Route Rose Society, with blooming roses and their scents enthralling visitors and entrants.
The Spring Rose Show takes place at the Checkers Mall forecourt on Saturday 26 October from 07:00 and the show is open to members of the society and the public who grow roses in their own gardens and not commercially.
“Bring as many roses as you can,” says Irene Hutchinson, who serves on the society’s committee.
There is a R50 entrance fee and people can enter as many roses as they wish. The proceeds will go to the Green Hearts organisation.
'Wonderful prizes'
“There will also be some wonderful prizes,” says Hutchinson, “and we are planning to make this a ‘Happy Event.'"
The judging of the competition will be undertaken by accredited international and Rose South Africa-accredited judge, Stefanie Seydack.
Roses with names like Elina, Garden Queen, Playgirl, Iceberg, Mini Pearl, Cup Cake, Cecile Brunner and Albertine will feature in the various classes.
The classes are Hybrid Teas, Floribunda, Miniature, One Scented, Old Garden roses (OGR) and Nostalgia.
Novice exhibitors who have not won a prize in a rose show before can exhibit and they may enter roses in any other class in the show, if they so wish.
“It’s all about roses,” adds Hutchinson.
