This unique fashion show encourages children to design outfits consisting of recycled material only. The aim is not only to keep the young ones occupied, but also to spread the reuse, recycle, upcycle message. Grown-ups can give the children a hand with their designs, and the entire event becomes a learning process, explains Martie Rooi, one of the organisers.
Martie says the interest in the event is so big, and the children so excited, that she hardly gets rest when competition time comes. And this year’s event is set to be even bigger than before, as more activities have been added to the programme.
Martie thanks both Masithandane and Fresh Start, who came on board as sponsors. She has praise for the Virgil Kortje of the Municipality too, who pledged to sponsor a stage for the models who will show off the finished outfits.
