Simply the best!

KNYSNA NEWS - It's official. Knysna has been chosen as best town in the Western Cape.

Or, as the category that we won is aptly named, the Best Dorpie!

Which in effect makes it the best town in the universe as there is no other known place in any galaxy where smaller urban settings are known as "'dorpies".

The title comes courtesy of radio station Kfm's Best of the Cape Awards.

The announcement was made live on air on Friday 12 August, during Kfm's day-long awards ceremony declaring the 30 winners of the competition.

But enough about us for now. First rather a quick background on how this outstanding accolade came to be bestowed on this particular little gem of the Garden Route.

The title comes courtesy of radio station Kfm's Best of the Cape Awards. The announcement was made live on air on Friday 12 August, during Kfm's day-long awards ceremony declaring the 30 winners of the competition. Knysna faced stiff competition in the form of George, Montagu, Robertson and Langebaan.

But, as we have shown in the past, Knysna does not back down in the face of a strong challenge and we outshone the competition to be crowned with the top honour in the province.

"Every person who lives in the greater Knysna area, or who has visited us, knows that our area deserves this accolade," said Knysna Mayor Levael Davis in a municipal statement.

"With our incredible natural beauty, rich history, fantastic tourism offerings and friendly people we have won the hearts of South Africans and international travellers. Knysna offers something to everyone, and everyone loves Knysna.

Thank you to each and every listener who voted for Knysna. We sincerely appreciate your support and your love for our dorpie. Congratulations, Knysna.

"And congratulations to the residents of the greater Knysna area. You are who make Knysna great."
