GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - After five full-house performances, followed by three more, the Sedgefield Players are bringing their play, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), to the George Arts Theatre.
Actors Nita Allsop, Gareth Pretorius and Bomber Webb will entertain their audience on 31 August at 19:00 for two hours with their hilarious attempt to squash all 37 of Shakespeare's plays into a single theatrical experience.
"We knew we were having fun, but certainly didn't expect our audiences to join us with such enthusiasm," said director Melanie Baumeister, who is thrilled with the local demand for their performance of the play. The show is also booked in Knysna.
She describes the show, as "joyfully choreographed chaos, with audiences never quite sure what is scripted, and what isn't. And whilst it is acknowledged that old William himself is probably turning in his grave, it would probably be with laughter, more than anything else.
"The show is educational and an excellent combination of physical theatre and farce genre. Whether you know the works of Shakespeare or have never dabbled in anything by The Bard, this performance has truly tickled the universal funny bone," said Baumeister.
The show will also be performed at the opening of the new Knysna Theatre on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 September.
The show is suitable for children older than 13, and grandparents alike. Book your tickets through Computicket or at the Arts Theatre.
