KNYSNA NEWS - A second Knysna Municipality employee tested positive for Covid-19, pushing the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Knysna to 25.
This case comes less than two weeks after the municipality registered its first Covid-19 case when a contract worker tested positive of the coronavirus.
The worker as well as his colleagues have been placed in quarantine.
Acting municipal manager Dr Michele Gratz said their offices where the contract worker frequented work were cleaned and disinfected.
“All municipal staff are required to wear PPE and are screened daily. Social distancing measures are also practised in all our workspaces,” she said.
On Monday, Gratz said as with the first case, they immediately took the required steps when they received the results of the second employee. “The worker was placed in quarantine and the entire team was tested on Saturday morning. Nine members of the team are in quarantine at the moment… The tracing process to find those he has been in contact with outside the workplace has started and we are assisting the health department at the Knysna Provincial Hospital and the Covid-19 Command Centre where we can.
Gratz said the number of cases are increasing, as expected by the government.
