KNYSNA NEWS - A total of 120 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from communities surrounding Knysna gathered on 23 April for an information-sharing workshop aimed at strengthening local business participation in public procurement opportunities.
Hosted by South African National Parks (SANParks) in partnership with Knysna Municipality, the workshop took place at the Premier Hotel in Knysna. It focused on equipping local businesses with practical knowledge of supply chain processes, compliance requirements, and regulatory standards.
Attendees received guidance on procurement procedures within SANParks and the municipality, with emphasis on adherence to national treasury regulations to ensure fair, transparent and accountable procurement. Organisers said improved compliance readiness is essential to unlocking greater opportunities for local enterprises.
Stakeholders support enterprise growth
The session was attended by key stakeholders, including the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (Sedfa), Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Department of Employment and Labour, National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), and Standard Bank Relationship Bankers.
These organisations shared information on funding options, enterprise development support, and compliance obligations for small businesses.
Engagement and networking opportunities
Beyond formal presentations, MSMEs engaged directly with stakeholders, raising operational challenges and participating in structured networking sessions with fellow service providers.
SANParks said the initiative forms part of its broader enterprise and supplier development strategy which is aimed at strengthening local economic participation, improving supplier readiness, and expanding access to procurement opportunities.
The collaboration with Knysna Municipality was highlighted as a key step in aligning public procurement systems with local economic development objectives, particularly in supporting emerging businesses in surrounding communities.
