KNYSNA NEWSFLASH - All SANParks sites along the Garden Route and throughout South Africa are safe for visitors and tourists alike.
This was the message from SANParks head of safety and security Johan Jooste.
The retired army major general visited Knysna last week with SANParks teams to r-assess risks, threats and vulnerabilities to the Garden Route National Park and its visitors.
It follows an incident a few weeks ago in which Dutch tourists were robbed along a walking trail in Wilderness. The suspects have been since apprehended.
Dubbed “Operation Reboot”, input from the meeting will be fed into a national safety and security strategy led by Jooste.
Speaking to media during a site visit, Jooste said equipping rangers with fresher skills and strengthening alliances with other law enforcement authorities form part of the short to medium-term interventions.
There are other planned operational interventions.
