KNYSNA NEWS - Staff members from the Knysna Lakes section of the Garden Route National Park joined hands with the SANParks Honorary Rangers from the Knysna Region for numerous projects on Mandela Day, Monday 18 July.
The initiatives included a temporary soup kitchen at Loerie Park, handing out of food parcels and blankets to 80 households in Diepwalle, a clean-up in Khayalethu, and cleaning and greening at Harkerville Primary School.
For the soup kitchen at Loerie Park, they cooked a 25-litre pot of beef and veggie stew plus rice for the jobless and homeless people who hang around Loerie Park.

"The ingredients for the potjie were kindly sponsored by Food Lover's Market Knysna, the rolls were a donation from the SANParks Honorary Rangers," said chairperson of the SANParks Honorary Rangers in the Knysna Region, Sabine Schukai.
"We fed about 100 hungry mouths - some of these people haven't had a hot meal for weeks! None of them had to leave hungry."
