PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Bitou Municipality has released a statement urging residents to assist in the fight against vandalism and malicious damage to public infrastructure and property.
This comes after several incidents had been reported over the past few months.
"Several pump stations and public ablution facilities have been broken into and serious damage has been reported," reads the statement.
"Theft of copper electrical cables, taps, shower cables and other items in our public facilities is also getting out of hand. These items are stolen and are sold for cash."
The damage runs into thousands of rands and the municipality's ability to deliver services to the public is being negatively impacted.
"Power outages as a result of these incidents are on the rise and more and more sewage leaks and water supply interruptions are being reported."
Incidents can be reported to the police on 10111 or Bitou Public Safety on 044 533 5000. "It is in our best interest to stop this criminal act," reads the statement.
