KNYSNA NEWS - The infamous Red Ants were called in by the municipality over the weekend to demolish illegal structures in Karatara, where dozens of people are believed to have staged a land invasion.
The action by the municipality cost an approximate R85 000 and includes monitoring of the area.
“Knysna Municipality is completely opposed to any illegal land invasions. We take this stance because the municipality needs to ensure that the interests of all awaiting beneficiaries as well as of the community at large are balanced. We urge the community to refrain from any unlawful activity and appeal to them to cooperate with the municipality on this,” the municipality stated.
“The cost incurred for the work and monitoring the area is approximately R85 000. The Red Ants have now returned to Cape Town and, if needed, will be recalled.”
The municipality added that they will continue engagements with the provincial department of human settlements and updates will be provided to ward councillors to communicate the progress through ward and housing committees.
