KNYSNA NEWS - The Khayalethu Library team hosted a Reading Rally in partnership with nine preschools in Knysna on 13 March. This initiative formed part of the annual Library Week programme.
The municipal officials and approximately 150 children from Ethembeni, Paula Whitney, Learning Tree, Judah Square, Isiseko, Rainbow, Lingolom Afrika and Ikamva Lethu preschools marched from Magadla shop to Sanlam Centre with placard messages encouraging people to read.
The librarians were assisted by traffic and fire departments for safety and traffic control.
Community Services chair, councillor Welcome Salaze expressed his excitement about the programme. "Our staff have come up with such a different and creative way to reach out to young people. Thank you to all of them for encouraging people to read at an early age."
The Khayalethu Library also used the opportunity to distribute and collect library card application forms.
Furthermore, all residents are encouraged to visit their closest library and apply for the library card free of charge.
