PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plett police are still searching for the family of a man whose body was retrieved from the water at Robberg 5 Beach in Plett last month.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, witness reports indicate that the man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, arrived at the beach at about 18:25 on 13 December 2023.
"He went into the water and disappeared. The life guards deployed immediately responded and the body was retrieved. He was later declared deceased by medical personnel on scene," Spies said.
The man, whose identity is yet to be established, was dressed in blue jeans and a grey shirt with the writing "Afonso Mabengo" at the back and a pair of black Asics tekkies at the time.
Spies confirmed that Plett detectives have opened an investigation into the matter.
The shoes worn by the man when he disappeared.
The investigating officer, Sergeant Zinnias Mtirara, urges the public to come forward with any information which could assist police to track down the next of kin of the deceased.
