PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plett Tourism has been awarded Best Coastal Tourism Destination Portal 2026 - South Africa at the LUXlife Travel & Tourism Awards.
This significant international award forms part of the programme's tenth anniversary, which honours top performers across the global travel and tourism sector. This year's winners were selected for their innovation, service excellence and ability to enhance visitor experiences in a competitive international market.
According to awards co-ordinator Kaven Cooper, the recognition reflects a strong commitment to quality and forward-thinking approaches within the industry.
Focus on digital experience
The award highlights Plett Tourism's official online platform as a key entry point for visitors to Plettenberg Bay. Judges evaluated the portal on its accessibility, functionality and ability to present the destination through engaging content and visuals.
The platform promotes the town's attractions, including its Blue Flag beaches, and features storytelling initiatives such as the 'People of Plett' series. It also connects users to local businesses, including accommodation providers, restaurants and activity operators along routes such as the Plett Wine Route.
Economic and community impact
Acting CEO Cindy Wilson-Trollip said the award highlights the importance of a strong digital presence in attracting visitors.
"A tourism portal is often the first point of contact for travellers," she said. "This recognition reflects our efforts to present an accurate and compelling picture of the destination."
The portal is managed by consultants Brendon Morris and Janet Middleton, alongside intern Somila Nkcita. Middleton noted that content development is supported by contributions from across the local tourism sector.
Building on a strong year
The recognition follows a year of increased visibility for Plettenberg Bay, including its use as a filming location for an international Netflix production, the hosting of major festivals, and the achievement of multiple Blue Flag and Green Coast designations.
The latest award reinforces the town's position as a leading destination on South Africa's Garden Route, with its digital platform playing a central role in attracting both domestic and international visitors.
