BITOU NEWS - The latest delay this week in granting offshore production rights and environmental authorisation applications by TotalEnergies has been hailed as a “small victory” by Plett environmentalists. But the battle continues.
The respected international Lewis Pugh foundation, that strives for environmental justice for the world’s oceans, has stepped in to support the Plettenberg Bay Environmental Forum’s battle.
In its latest newsletter, the foundation has placed the issue on the international radar.
The boost for the forum’s fight against gas production and seismic exploration off the Plettenberg Bay coast comes in a week that a further extension to the submission date for the final environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) was announced.
The new date is 30 August and relates to off-shore production right by TotalEnergies (Teepsa) for block 11B/12B off Plettenberg Bay.
