PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Plettenberg Bay dog fighting trial was once again postponed this week after one of the accused, Owen Butler, admitted that he once owned pitbulls but got rid of them because of his involvement in another dog fighting case.
Butler and one of his co-accused Anton van Blerk, both East London residents, were convicted and sentenced on similar charges in February last year.
Butler, one of six men on trial following their arrest during a police raid during a dog fighting event outside Plettenberg Bay in May 2011, took his place in the witness stand on Thursday March 26.
During cross examination state prosecutor Chamelle Bastian indicated that she wanted to bring an application to pose some questions relating to the East London case to Butler.
Attorney for the six accused, Ricardo Pieterse, was instructed to oppose such application. The matter was therefore postponed until May 18, with another three days having been set aside for the continuation of the trial.
