KNYSNA NEWS - Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies has confirmed that no foul play is suspected following the discovery of a man’s body at the Hornlee sports field on Friday 30 January.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the same day that Knysna Secondary School was hosting its interhouse athletics event at the venue. It is alleged that the man was present at the sports field during the event.
Witnesses reported seeing the man lying on the field as the athletics meeting came to an end and participants and spectators were preparing to leave.
Spies confirmed the circumstances, stating that Knysna Police opened an inquest docket after the body was discovered. Personnel working at the premises noticed the man lying on the field and alerted authorities shortly after 15:00.
Emergency services responded to the scene and were directed to the body on arrival. The man was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been made known or confirmed by authorities. No foul play is suspected at this stage, and investigations are continuing as part of the inquest.
