KNYSNA NEWS - Nine shacks were demolished in a fire in Khayalethu on Tuesday 20 May.
The families have lost all their belongings, including ID documents and foreign national passports.
A foreign national, Rutendo David Brute, said the fire broke out while he was at work and he heard from his wife that their house had burnt down.
"When I arrived from work everything was down," said David. "The fire started from another house and came to all the houses. All my belongings have been burnt down, my tools, beds and just everything.
"I'm left with nothing and am struggling to get working documents as I'm from Zimbabwe. Now I cannot work. It is a process to get all the documents."
Knysna Municipality has not yet confirmed whether the cause of the fire is known. Look out for the article in our print edition next week, that will include their comment.
