PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Fear and tension are mounting in New Horizons in Plettenberg Bay, where residents claim a group of minors armed with pangas, blades and Okapi knives has been terrorising the community.

According to residents, the incidents began in August, with several people claiming they have been threatened and attacked, triggering growing concern over safety in the area.

Police have confirmed that multiple cases were reported. Southern Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, said the cases include one of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm (GBH) and two cases of common assault.

"All matters reported to the police received attention and in these matters arrests were made," Spies said.

He said the three suspects who were linked to the reported assault and assault GBH cases, are aged between 14 and 24. The matters are currently before court.

In one of the common assault cases, the complainant later withdrew the charge and no further action was taken.

Spies pointed out that in cases involving minors, the parents or guardians are informed of any criminal offences.

Despite the arrests, residents maintain that fear persists in the community, with calls for increased police visibility and intervention to prevent further incidents.
