PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Golf and charity are set to take centre stage in Plettenberg Bay next month with the annual Mayoral Golf Day taking place after it was put on ice over the past Easter weekend.
"Our focus has always been about uplifting our community and recently, after discussions with local municipalities, it came to my attention that the Bitou annual Mayoral Golf Day fundraiser had been cancelled as they had no funding to continue with the initiative," said Paul Duverge, managing director of Raw Africa Boutique Collection.
This led Duverge to step in by offering that they can use the local establishment Sky Villa Boutique Hotel's #TeeOff4Tourism brand for their fundraising efforts.
With the objective to raise funds for the youth, the fundraiser, under the brand banner of #TeeOff4TheYouth and in collaboration with Raw Africa Boutique Collection and Sky Villa Boutique Hotel, will take place at the Gary Player-designed 18-hole, 72-par Goose Valley Golf Course in Plettenberg Bay on Friday 3 June.
At 11:00 a shotgun start will get the ball rolling.
The format will be Texas Scramble - a form of team competition in golf that was extremely popular in Texas back in the 1950s.
A Texas Scramble has all members of a team - usually three or four players - tee off. Once all have teed off the team decides which drive is the best and all then place their golf balls where the chosen drive ended up to play a second shot from this spot.
From the second shots the best is again selected.
This continues until the ball is holed. Each team returns one score for each hole and the team with the lowest score for the round wins.
All proceeds, after expenses, will be allocated to local youths, some local charity organisations and bursaries for Raw Africa Boutique Collection's newly launched Garden Route Hotel School.
Bitou Mayor Dave Swart said teeing off for our youth will afford the mayoral fund the opportunity" to set deserving candidates on a path to greater opportunities, achievements, and to foster a spirit of ubuntu".
"We're looking for local businesses to contribute in any way they can and to show support by taking part in the day," Duverge said.
