PLETTENBURG BAY NEWS - A Plettenberg Bay man died after a hit-and-run accident on the N2 on Saturday 23 March.
According to the 35-year-old victim Alan Smit's wife, Ashleigh, the incident occurred between Sedgefield and Knysna between 20:30 and 21:30.
A friend who was with her husband at the time had identified the perpetrator's vehicle as a silver Opel Corsa bakkie with a canopy and blue lights inside.
Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies confirmed that their detective branch is investigating a case of murder.
"Preliminary investigation into this matter indicates the victim stopped the vehicle he was travelling in and approached a white or silver Corsa bakkie that stopped in front of him. This vehicle reversed and hit the victim before it sped off. The victim sustained multiple injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday evening 24 March," Spies said.
No arrest has been made yet and the search for the Corsa bakkie continues.
Spies added, "The Knysna police urge the public to come forward with any information that may assist the police in tracing the vehicle involved as well as the driver.
