Update
KNYSNA NEWS - While the family and friends of the late Knysna businessman Mawande Kondlo (46) are still mourning their loss, seven months after his murder, they can now find some solace in the fact that a suspect has finally been arrested - 32-year-old Waydon Bezuidenhout.
Following his arrest, Bezuidenhout appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder on Friday 26 August.
He was remanded in custody after the case was postponed to today, Thursday 1 September, for the bail application.
Bezuidenhout was taken into custody on Thursday 25 August. Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says an extensive and intricate investigation by Knysna detectives in collaboration with Garden Route District Crime Intelligence and a private security company that monitors CCTV cameras in Knysna, led to the arrest.
An off-duty police official found Kondlo's body at Bokkoppie near the Uniondale Road (R339) at 18:50 on 17 January. His hands and legs were bound with a cloth and he had a head wound.
Kondlo was a beloved member of the local tourism industry, and a pioneer in the development and growth of township tourism in Knysna.
He left behind his wife, Penny and three children, Wandukhanye (15), Wanduchume (13) and Wandumtha (9).
Mawande Kondlo had a passion for cooking and hard work.
