PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Oriented Birds spread their wings when they defeated Maties Football Club 4-1 in a thrilling ABC Motsepe Provincial League encounter at Kwanokuthula Stadium in Plettenberg Bay on Saturday 9 November.
Siyanda "Spokie" Madlala netted the four goals for the Birds, while Duncan Mohale scored the goal for Maties FC.
With 10 points, the Birds - who have three victories from five games, playing to a draw and going down in their fourth fixture - top the log in Western Cape ABC Motsepe league stream B, while Cape Winelands Region outfit Maties FC are battling to be in the top five positions.
Outstanding performance
Madlala (22) produced an outstanding performance in the game as put the Maties back line under pressure.
After the start the Birds took the game from Maties, going forward into the box with combination touches.
Madlala made it 1-0, and Maties had to chase the game.
The Plett side kept on pressing forward, looking for more chances inside the box.
Madlala scored his brace, and Maties tried hard, but unsuccessfully, to break through the Birds' solid defence.
High tempo
The home side started the second half at a high tempo, building their passes from the centre-left of the field.
Sinalo Topi of Oriented Birds sent a delightful pass to Madlala, who made no mistake in netting his hat-trick.
Kyle Mattheys and Luphulo Zini of Maties worked very hard in the centre, trying to block a strong attack from Oriented Birds' flanks.
On top of their game
The Birds players were enjoying themselves, with Avela "Keita" Qondo and Eston Matheus on top of their game, dominating from the centre.
Madlala put the final nail in the coffin when he scored his fourth goal.
Maties then came back into the game with full force, trying to get their first goal, and Mohale netted the consolation goal for the Stellenbosch team.
The Western Cape ABC Motsepe league game ended on a high note, with the Birds collecting maximum points in their backyard.
