Prior to the Easter weekend, learners were challenged to collect as many Easter eggs as they possibly could, and they managed to collect a grand total of 8500 eggs. In conjunction with Pam Golding Properties, these Easter treats were then distributed to various crèches and non-profit organisations in the greater Knysna district, on Wednesday, April 20. This kind gesture forms part of the school’s annual learner projects.
"We held an inter-house learner competition whereby learners were asked to collect as many easter eggs as they could. We had a great response from learners. The main aim of these projects are to teach learners about caring for others, preferably youngsters and the elderly in particular," says Margi Nolte, a teacher of Knysna Primary School.
"Pam Golding felt a strong need to truly live up to their motto of the joy of giving," explains Ling Dobson of Pam Golding.
Dobson says that Pam Golding has been involved in various projects relating to education.
"We are really into education and want to see things happen. That is why we help. It is a huge privilege for us. It makes one realise that there are many people in dire need of assistance, as well as the complexity of our town. We are visiting and seeing places we never thought of," says Dobson.
Nolte further explains: "We think it is really important for us as teachers and leaders to sow the seed of grooming youngsters into caring citizens - people that will one day also give back to the community as well as play leading roles at different organisations assisting the impoverished inhabitants."
The crèches and other organisations which received more than 300 Easter eggs each were, Lilliput Crèche, Bitou Round Table Crèche, Hildur Stent Pre-Primary School and Crèche, the Knysna Provincial Hospital, Vermont Old Age Home, Badisa, Loeriehof, Knysna Child Welfare and the Knysna Education Trust.
Teachers and management of the different organisations and crèches expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude towards Knysna Primary School and Pam Golding.
"Thank you for blessing our children over the Easter weekend," said a teacher of Hildur Stent Pre-primary School and Crèche.
