Plett police spokesman Captain Marlene Pieterse said the young girl was believed to be grade 9 learner at Murray High School in Kwanokuthula on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay.
She said a passerby walking near the N2 at the Great River Bridge, had noticed a person standing on the bridge at about 11:30.
Pieterse said the passerby immediately contacted police.

“The deceased was wearing a white school shirt and grey trousers. She left her Murray High School pullover and Grashopper shoes next to the bridge.”
Pieterse said the parents were informed and were assisted at the police victim support room by volunteers.
“An inquest docket was opened. No foul play is suspected.”
