KNYSNA NEWS - In alignment with Rotary International's commitment to environmental protection, the Rotary Club of Knysna has been helping residents dispose of unwanted electronic and electrical goods safely through its popular e-waste collection days.
The first event was piloted in February 2022 and proved so successful that the club's Environmental Committee has continued the initiative.
Recently, the Rotary Club held its 15th e-waste collection day.
Rotary Knysna partners with Henque Waste, a George-based waste management company, to ensure all collected items are properly processed.
A collection station is set up in the Loerie Park car park, where Rotarians assist with logistics and the Henque team handles sorting and loading onto the recycling truck.
In addition to collecting e-waste, the Rotarians hand out Knysna's official household recycling guide and sell clear recycling bags to encourage residents to make use of the town's weekly recycling collection.
Although e-Waste Day is a community service project and generates no profit, those dropping off goods are welcome to make a voluntary donation in support of Rotary's broader environmental work.
e-Waste Days are held from 08:30 to 12:00 on the first Saturday of March, June, September and December. Upcoming dates are shared via Rotary Knysna's social media, local newspapers and community WhatsApp groups.
