KNYSNA NEWS - The N2 near Nekkies has been opened after municipal officials came and addressed the residents.
Residents protested because there are "no decent houses" in Dam se Bos South, leading to people living in shacks.
Their anger was ignited after an elderly man died in a shack fire on Sunday 6 April. A niece of the deceased, Somikazi Ngemntu, said his uncle was living alone in the house and they didn't know what the cause of the fire was.
Residents pointed out that this was not the first time that shacks in the area were gutted by fire, saying that, if they had RDP houses in the area, this could have not happened.
The municipal officials, including Mayor Thando Matika, Deputy Mayor Morton Gericke and Ward Councillor Mncedisi Skosana, visited the scene of the fatal fire and promised that a temporary house will be provided by the municipality soon. The road was then opened after it had been closed for about four hours.
