KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has intensified its efforts to stabilise and improve service delivery across Greater Knysna, following a directive from the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and the approval of Mayor Thando Matika's Service Delivery Recovery and Innovation Action Plan.
Interventions
Matika confirmed that a series of urgent, high-intensity interventions are currently under way to address persistent infrastructure and service challenges.
Central to these efforts is the establishment of a dedicated municipal war room, which convenes weekly to monitor progress, identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
“The war room was established to ensure focused oversight, accountability and co-ordinated responses to service delivery issues,” explained Matika. “Senior management report weekly on progress, challenges and solutions, allowing us to act decisively and transparently.”
Knysna Infrastructure Group
In support of these initiatives, Knysna Infrastructure Group (Kig) has also stepped up to provide several informative and transparent platforms for residents living between Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and George.
Since the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between Knysna Municipality and Kig, residents have been encouraged to report infrastructure-related issues such as water leaks, pipe breaks, and other service disruptions through WhatsApp groups. Residents have praised Kig for its ongoing, round-the-clock updates and communication.
Logging service requests
Matika further stressed that the war room initiative does not replace existing municipal customer care channels. “All service delivery issues must first be logged through official municipal platforms to ensure proper recording, allocation and tracking.”
There are several options for logging service requests: via the Collaborator app, by contacting the municipal switchboard on 044 302 6300, emailing to customercare@knysna.gov.za, sending an SMS to 44453, visiting municipal offices in person, or contacting the relevant municipal departments directly.
War room
“If a resident has already logged a service request through the official channels and the matter remains unresolved, they are encouraged to escalate the issue to the war room,” Matika said. “A valid municipal reference number is required to ensure verification and effective follow-up.”
Unresolved service delivery issues can be reported to the war room on 044 001 2631 or emailing warroom@knysna.gov.za.
In conclusion Matika said, "We remain committed to restoring service delivery standards, improving response times and rebuilding public trust. We appreciate the cooperation of residents as we work together to address current challenges."
