KNYSNA NEWS - Loyiso Vakele, a gospel singer originally from Knysna and now based in Johannesburg, has just released his latest single titled Ndisikelele ('blessing'), available on all major digital platforms.
This marks his fourth single in an evolving music career that spans over two decades.
Loyiso's musical journey began in 1999 as the lead vocalist of an a cappella group performing Iscathamiya (characterised by a capella singing and choreographed movements). Over time, his path led him to gospel music, where he discovered his true calling as a singer and songwriter.
He became the lead vocalist and choir conductor at the Apostolic Faith Mission, and quickly gained recognition in his community for his vocal talent and expressive musical style.
Driven by his love of gospel music, Loyiso joined a community gospel choir before launching his career as a solo artist.
In 2011, he became the director of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology Arts Society, where he nurtured talent across acting, dancing, poetry, music and theatre.
As a vocalist he has shared stages with some of South Africa's gospel greats, including Unathi Mzekeli, Andile ka-Majola and Solly Mahlangu.
In 2015, he was also featured in a gospel project by the award-nominated Afro-gospel group SSPEL.
His first gospel single, released in 2017, Ngiyabonga Jesu, was critically acclaimed.
Outside of music, Loyiso is a registered electrical engineer and a certified project management professional (PMP).
