KNYSNA NEWS - Residents living near the Knysna Golf Club have raised complaints over early morning grass cutting activities, which they say begin at around 05:00 including on weekends.
Community members have described the timing as disruptive, particularly over weekends, arguing that it impacts the peace and quiet typically expected in residential areas during early morning hours.
Some residents have called for the maintenance schedule to be reviewed.
Golf club responds
In response, Knysna Golf Club general manager Meyer du Toit said the matter is currently being addressed in conjunction with the relevant authorities.
"In order to ensure consistency and fairness to all parties, we will continue to engage through the appropriate official channels," Du Toit said.
He added that the club operates within all applicable local and provincial regulations and remains committed to responsible operations and maintaining a constructive relationship with the surrounding community.
"Should any further information be required, it will be provided through the appropriate structures," he said.
Municipal process explained
The municipality said that under the Western Cape Noise Control Regulations there are no fixed time limits that automatically define a noise nuisance. Instead, each case is assessed using the "reasonable person" standard whether an average person would find the noise disturbing under the circumstances.
Municipal communications officer Nwabisa Pondoyi confirmed in a statement that the municipality is currently engaging directly with the golf course.
"As part of the formal process, complainants are required to submit an affidavit. A noise control officer, together with Law Enforcement, will then carry out investigations or inspections guided by the same standard. If the noise is found to constitute a nuisance, the responsible party may be issued with a written notice requiring compliance.
"In the meantime, residents are encouraged to continue logging complaints through the municipality's official channels to support the investigation and ensure the matter is properly tracked," the statement said.
