At the end of Saturday 5 May, André Bezuidenhout in his Nicholson McLaren NME-engine Gould GR55 dominated most of the practice sessions and the first qualifier of the day, mostly with sub-40 second times.
Today, Sunday 6 May, he has already set an unofficial track record of 36.006 seconds – heading up Simola hill at an average speed of 190km/h.
After the third qualifier today – and at the time of going to press – Bezuidenhout together with Robert Wolk and Dawie Joubert broke the 40 second mark. Spectators can be sure that today is going to be a scorcher on and off the track.
84 drivers, separated into different classifications, will take part today and enthral motoring enthusiasts.
Shootouts will cover the Road and Supercar, Single Seater and Sports Car, and Modified Saloon Car, classes. Prize giving is scheduled to start at around 16:40 if all goes to plan.
A large contingent of local and national media are on the scene to ensure coverage of the event. A live stream is also available on the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb’s website, www.speedfestival.co.za, and at www.youtube.com/user/JaguarSA1 or www.facebook.com/JaguarSA.
