PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A group of more than 30 family members and friends of Kimon "Kiki" Bisogno gathered on a small beach next to the Beacon Island Resort on Monday 25 September to celebrate her life.
Kiki (39) died in an attack by a great white shark during an early morning swim a year ago.
Diego Milesi, her partner, tossed a single rose into the water shortly after 08:00. Describing the moment as emotional, he said Kiki was selfless and the gathering on the beach was to celebrate her life and he would return to this special place to say thanks to her.
Carminda Bisogno, her mother, said Kiki had left them with a legacy. "She taught us so much – to put our egos aside and live in the present. She was a special person and loved life. Although she could be a party animal and enjoyed life to the fullest, she was never mean to anyone.
"She gave us the tools to empower ourselves and strive for a non-violent, peaceful society by creating joy in life," said Carminda. "She was very creative and loved ceremonies, parties and festivals…"
Kiki co-founded the Obs Pasta Kitchen in Cape Town, an initiative serving homemade pasta to homeless people one night a week. She was described as a humanitarian, an active member of her community and her kind-hearted lifestyle made a positive impact at grass-roots level, leaving a taste of someone who is generous and helpful. The celebration ended with the chants for departing souls by an Indian guru whose teaching Kiki had followed.
