KNYSNA NEWS AND VIDEO - With the Knysna fires still fresh in our memories, the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb has committed to regreening Knysna in collaboration with renowned tree planting NPO Greenpop.
The Hillclimb will be supporting Greenpop's Eden regeneration project. All funds raised will go towards the clearing of alien vegetation and the planting of indigenous trees in the areas affected by last year's fires.
Trees will be planted in Featherbed Nature Reserve and Phantom Forest. Both of these localities are private nature reserves and key tourist attractions in the area that were severely affected by the fires, with little vegetation left in place.
A whole ecosystem to benefit
The scope of the project goes much further than tree planting – it's priority is to restore the forest canopy, the biodiversity that this supports and in turn the vital ecosystem services that this forest system provides.
As organisers, the Simola Hillclimb has donated one tree on behalf of every competitor participating in the 2018 event, with the cost being added to their entry fee, therefore 148 trees have already been “purchased” in the name of the event's competitors.
The Greenpop team visited Rheenendal Primary School in November and held a planting workshop as part of the First Choice “It’s all good” campaign, when about 30 trees were planted. On the left, in the hat, is GreenPop CEO Misha Teasdale. Photos: Stefan Goosen

Join the challenge
Jaguar and its dealer network are also donating towards the project – challenging each other to match or beat their contributions – and appeal to everyone to support this worthy cause by donating.
Please note the cost to purchase and plant one tree is R120, and all funds go directly to Greenpop via the GivenGain portal.
The target for this initiative is for a minimum of 1 500 trees to be donated to Greenpop by 15 May 2018.
Help Jaguar achieve their goal to aid the regreening of the Garden Route by purchasing one, or 10 or more trees – challenge your friends, business associates or anyone to do the same or better.
