KNYSNA NEWS - It’s almost time for the annual Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival, which this year coincides with the Mr Gay World™ finals between 20 and 27 May.
The Pink Loerie Foundation is inviting all local businesses to join the fun by creating a special display in your shop window, shop front, entrance, garden, rooftop, anywhere that best suits your business! This display will show solidarity with the event and attract attention to your business.
Pink Loerie spokesperson John O’Neil confirmed that there is a prize worth R,9000 up for grabs for the best display. The prize has been donated by www.facebook.com/CraigDuToitNelPage. It is a seven-day, six-night stay for two people including breakfast in self-catering chalets at Out of Africa Village Lodge in Hartbeespoort in the North West. Transport is for your own cost and the prize is subject to availability.
O’Neil says that he recommends that displays include the traditional pink colours as in previous years. “But perhaps you can throw in some rainbow colours, and perhaps even a flag or two,” he says.
“Competitors can put up posters and add event logos, and possibly all the pictures of the Mr Gay World™ finalists or just your favourite. We have created a Dropbox with some resources which will be shared on the website when you enter.”
“You can take this a step further of course by entering a float into the Saturday parade.
"Starting at 15:00 on Saturday 26 May on the corner of Queen Street and Main Street, it turns at Pledge Square and ends in front of Knysna Mall with a street party until 5pm. This party will be accompanied by live music and food.
To participate in the competition, enter your business at www.pinkloeriefoundation.com and start planning so that you can get the maximum effect. Make sure you get the display up before 18 May.
Judging will take place by Thursday 24 May 2018 and the winner will be announced on Friday evening at Mr Gay World™ 2018 President’s Ball and Fundraising Auction at Villa Castollini.
Says O’Neil: “We are expecting a bumper attendance this year, and we hope you will capitalize on it by taking part in this challenge. We look forward to seeing your effort.”
